
Professor Charles Ferro

Biography
Professor Ferro graduated with degrees in Biochemistry and Medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 1991 and trained in renal medicine in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Truro and Bristol. He obtained his doctorate in 1997 with a thesis on the clinical application of endothelin antagonism in cardiovascular medicine. He has been a consultant nephrologist at University Hospitals Birmingham, with senior academic positions at the University of Birmingham, since 2002. In 2016 he was appointed Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences. His clinical and research interests are focussed on the aetiology and treatment of cardiovascular disease in patients with chronic kidney disease. He runs a tertiary referral centre for cardiorenal medicine. He is currently co-chair of the Birmingham Cardiorenal Research Group, vice-chair of the European Renal and Cardiovascular Medicine Working Group of the European Renal Association, and chairman of the Strong Kidneys Task Force of the European Renal Association.
