Professor Adrian Iancu began his medical career as a Cardiology intern at the Heart Institute in Cluj-Napoca. During the early 1980s he carried out pioneering work in the field of Interventional Cardiology. He began with left and right heart catheterization and continued with peripheral interventions and balloon mitral and aortic valvuloplasties. In the early 1990s he performed several training modules in the United Kingdom, Germany, Scandinavia, and the United States and began performing coronary interventions. He continuously developped his skills and improved his knowledge. He grew rapidly into arguably the most experienced operator in the country and he is currently the Coordinator of the Romanian Interventional Cardiology Training Programme.
Besides his cath lab experience, he is an internationally recognized researcher, with a special interest in the invasive assessment of coronary microcirculation. Over the time he coordinated several international research grants.
