Biography
Dr Chai-Ann Ng is an expert in cardiac genetic diseases related to channelopathies. He established the first clinically validated ion channel patch clamp assay, which has been successfully integrated into clinical genetics services. He now leads the ion channel functional genomics program at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute to establish validated patch clamp assays for 12 genes that cause ion channelopathies. He is a member of two ClinGen Variant Curation Expert Panels (cardiac potassium channels and cardiac sodium channels) which are tasked with establishing guidelines for clinical variant classification in genes that cause cardiac channelopathies. His collaborations include clinicians specialising in inherited arrhythmia syndromes (USA, Europe, UK, Australia), genetic units from major hospitals, and clinical diagnostic labs in Australia (VCGS, SA Pathology), UK (NHS genomics labs) and the USA (Labcorp Genetics, formerly Invitae Corporation).
