Doctor Arianna Scalco

Arianna Scalco is a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Cardiology at Johns Hopkins University, where she leads research investigating the mechanisms underlying endothelial development and their implications for vascular dysfunction and inflammation in atherosclerosis. She earned her Master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology and PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences from the University of Padua, where she studied cardiac sympathetic neurons in arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy using ex vivo and in vitro approaches. This research interest led her to Oregon Health & Science University, where she led projects investigating autonomic dysfunction in hypertension and heart failure using mouse models. During her time at OHSU, she also established an ex vivo calcium imaging approach to study intact sympathetic ganglia. When I’m not in the lab, I enjoy cooking, exploring new countries, and occasionally going horseback riding.
