Dr. Tuomas Rissanen, MD, PhD and interventional cardiologist. He received his MD and PhD (Gene Therapy for Blood Vessel Growth) degrees in 2006 in Kuopio University, Finland. He was graduated as cardiologist in 2012. He was selected as the Head of Heart Center in North Karelia Central Hospital, Joensuu, Finland in 2018. He was selected part time (30%) professor of cardiology in the University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio in 2024.
He's clinical skills include complex PCI and CTO PCI as well as CRT and LBB-pacemaker implantations and complex upgrades. He has over approximately 100 peer-reviewed publications (5367, h-index 39). He’s current research interest is interventional cardiology and especially drug-coated balloon in coronary revascularization. He has conducted a multicenter DEBUT trial which was published in the Lancet, 2019. He is the Head of Science in Heart2Save LtD, a start-up company developing a mobile phone application for automated arrhythmia detection (CE mark approved).
