Doctor Heidi Noels
RWTH University Hospital Aachen, Aachen (Germany)
Biography
After a PhD at the Catholic University Leuven in 2008, Dr. Noels moved to the 'Institute for Molecular Cardiovascular Research' in the University Hospital Aachen, Germany, where she is now leading her research group “Experimental cardiovascular pathology". Key focus is the characterization of pathological inflammatory mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease, including atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction. Previous work resulted in the characterization of the role of chemokine receptors and their ligands in regulating inflammatory processes in atherosclerosis. Also, novel insights were revealed in signaling molecules affecting inflammation and atherosclerosis through the transcription factor NF-kB, a key regulator of inflammation. A recent focus includes the mechanistic study of the increased cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease and cardiometabolic disease, including post-infarction. Dr. Noels is coordinator of the MSCA Doctoral Network LipidBRIGHT.
