Professor Christina Christersson

Christina Christersson MD, PhD, FESC works as a senior consultant at the Department of Cardiology Uppsala University Hospital and as a professor at the Department of Medical Sciences at Uppsala University. She focus her research on patients with valvular diseases, heart failure and congenital heart disease and how soluble proteins, imaging, and physical performance can be used to identify individuals with high risk for progression of the disease. The aim is to identify biomarkers that can be translated into clinical practice. In addition she devotes her time on translational studies focusing on biological functions of extracellular vesicles and the interplay of coagulation and inflammation in patients with valvular disease and heart failure. She has authored/ co-authored > 100 scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals. She has been a member of the board of the Swedish Society of Cardiology and the vice president of the Swedish Heart Association.
