Professor Dr. Nikolaos Pagonas qualified from Athens Medical School and completed his doctoral thesis in the area of arteriogenesis in the Charité-University Hospital Berlin. After receiving extensive specialist training in internal medicine and cardiology at university hospitals in Germany, he is currently the Director of the Department of Cardiology at the University Hospital Ruppin-Brandenburg. He has a special interest and experience in interventional cardiology including treatment of patients with structural heart diseases, having received the EAPCI certification. His research interest includes translational projects in atherosclerosis, oxidized lipids and biomarkers in stable coronary artery disease and acute myocardial infarction. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. He is the Primary Investigator for several trials and has published more than 60 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.
