Webinar
Learning objectives
After watching the webinar, participants will be able to:
identify the main nursing focus during each stage of patient care;
gain knowledge on how to care for patients with a LVAD using the most recent evidence;
gain knowledge on how to access specialists’ advice when a person with a LVAD is admitted to hospital;
learn the indications for treatment with a LVAD; and
learn how to use routine out-patient management to care for a person with a LVAD.
Needs assessment
With more patients with LVADs coming to clinics, it can be stressful for staff who are not familiar with how LVADs function and how to care for this type of patient. Using an outline of a typical, classic case of LVAD implantation – from both a pre- and post-op perspective – a physician provides an introduction/overview to mechanical circulatory support. This is followed by a nurse or allied health professional delivering the practical aspects of patient care and management, including ‘red flags’. The objective of the webinar is to make the patient’s needs and care more understandable.
