Learning objectives

After watching this webinar, participants will understand the: 

• histopathological, detectable, structural, and/or electrical changes in the myocardium of the left atrium in LACM;
• clinical significance of LACM arising from its association with atrial fibrillation and embolic strokes of undetermined sources and how it may be important for the prevention of strokes;
• various methods (echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, electroanatomic mapping,) that have been considered to establish a diagnosis of LACM – although to date, there are no universally accepted recommendations; and
• current evidence about different methods, ending with a proposed algorithm that could be used to diagnose LACM.

Needs assessment and expected educational outcome 

To delve into the question of whether imaging techniques can reliably diagnose LACM – given the heterogeneity of such techniques and the fact that there are currently no recommendations for a standardised diagnosis of suspected LACM.
