Biography
Professor Pinto received MD, PhD from Lisbon School of Medicine, University of Lisbon, Portugal and completed fellowships at Santa Maria University Hospital (Lisbon, Portugal), and Stanford University Medical School (CA, USA). He is Head of the Cardiovascular Department at University Hospital Sta Maria, Lisbon, Portugal and was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. President and founder of the European Association of Echocardiography (2003-2004) and President of the ESC (2014-2016). President of WHF (21-22), FESC, FACC, FEACVI, FSCAI, FASE and Honorary Member of several international societies. He was Editor in Chief of the Portuguese Journal of Cardiology (1999-2015), and Member of the Editorial Board of several international journals. He published over 800 indexed articles and has presented over 2000 lectures/chairmanships at national and international meetings. His main areas of interest are cardiovascular imaging, global health, among others.
