Prof. Crea specialized in Pulmonary and Cardiovascular Diseases at Pisa University and became Senior Lecturer at RPMS, London in 1989.
He is presently Director of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Sciences and the Post-graduate school in Cardiology, and Coordinator of a PhD program in Molecular Medicine at the Catholic University, Rome.
He is Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, where he has been Chairman of the Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation and the Cluster Circulation, member of the Science Council, and on committees for Congress Programme, Education and Guidelines.
He is Associate Editor of EHJ and member of the Editorial Board of many prestigious international journals.
In 1992 he was awarded the Newburg Prize for exceptional contribution to the study of coronary circulation, and in 2013, the Recordati International Prize for lifetime achievement in researching the pivotal role of microcirculation in systemic and organ diseases.
