Dr. Michael Borger completed his cardiac surgery training and a PhD in Clinical Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Toronto in 2001. Following a one-year Fellowship at the Leipzig Heart Center in 2002, he took a position as Staff Cardiac Surgeon at the Toronto General Hospital and Assistant / Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto from 2002-2006. After his return to Leipzig in 2006 as a Staff Surgeon, he became Adjunct Professor of Surgery at the University of Leipzig in 2008 and was appointed as Assistant Director of the Leipzig Heart Center in 2009. In 2014, Dr. Borger became the Director of Aortic Surgery and the Director of the Cardiovascular Institute at Columbia University Medical Center in New York. In June, 2017 Dr. Borger returned to the Leipzig as the Director of the University Clinic of Cardiac Surgery at the Leipzig Heart Center. His research and clinical interests include surgical management of valvular heart and aortic disease.
