Doctor Sophie Antoine-Jonville

University of Avignon, Avignon (France)

Member of:

Sophie Antoine-Jonville is a senior assistant professor in exercise science. Her work covers exercise physiology and physical activity promotion in public health. She was the Dean of the Sports Sciences Department at the University of the French West Indies (Université des Antilles). She has developed research in environmental physiology aiming at understanding the metabolic and anthropometric adaptations to exercise in hot/tropical environments in healthy participants, and worked also on the adaptation to acute exercise in pathology in particular sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease. She contributed to the implementation of regional physical-activity based public health programmes. Her work in Avignon University since 2020 has been focusing on the interrelation between metabolic and vascular functions and their modulation by physical activity and thermal stress with the perspective of preventing the cardiovascular health.

Would the (too?) normal adaptation to exercise in sickle cell trait carrier be a reflection of preventive mechanisms against potential myocardial and muscle injury?
