Jürgen Scharhag started his career at the Clinic of Cardiology at the University of Mainz, specialized in Sports Medicine at the Institute of Sports and Preventive Medicine at the Saarland University, Saarbrücken and finished his education as a cardiologist at the Department of Cardiology at the University Clinic of Heidelberg (Germany). Since 2019 he is head of the Department of Sports Medicine, Exercise Physiology and Prevention at the University of Vienna (Austria). His main scientific area is sports cardiology with special interests in athlete's heart, cardiac adaptation, endurance exercise and cardiac function and biomarkers, as well as sports eligibility. In addition, he is working as a sports and team physician with elite athletes at olympic trainings centers and national teams.
