Professor Daniel Antonie Pijnappels

Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden (Netherlands (The))

Daniël Pijnappels is professor of cellular electrophysiology, head of the Laboratory of Experimental Cardiology and focusing on interdisciplinary translational cardiology. His group applies an integrative, translational research approach based on medicine, biology, physics and engineering to address the (unanswered) needs in knowledge and therapy regarding cardiac damage and arrhythmias through the creation of new biology and its integration with emerging technologies. For this research, he has received personal funding from the European Research Council (ERC: StG 2015 and CoG 2021) and other funding agencies. The results have been in published in, among others, Science Trans Med, Nature Biomed Eng, Eur Heart J, Cardiovasc Res and Circulation (Research). Regarding the ESC, his team has won numerous awards during congresses, incl first place YIAs, while he had the honor to serve as speaker, chair & program committee member.
