Margaret Cupples, Professor Emeritus of General Practice at Queen’s University, Belfast, continues to work within its Centre for Public Health, having been a Principal Investigator in Northern Ireland’s UKCRC Centre of Excellence for Public Health Research and had responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. In her clinical practice as a GP partner in both rural and urban settings an awareness of the impact of social and physical environments on people’s health stimulated her research interests in cardiovascular disease management, with a focus on prevention and rehabilitation. She has led the NI Clinical Research Network in Primary Care, which promotes high quality research and worked with international colleagues to extend the evidence base for best practice, including the design and implementation of interventions to promote and help sustain healthy lifestyle behaviours
