Doctor Maleeha Javed

Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi (Pakistan)

I grew up in the South,Karachi, one of four siblings. One of the best places in Pakistan, a bit of everything and everyone. The best things in life are gifted, and earned,so I have been fortunate so far, with a very supportive family and great friends, teachers. I thought I would follow my family into Civil service, but once, when I was in A'levels my friend's mother sneaked us into a Coronary artery bypass surgery, waiving us off as medical students. That's it. Nothing is more beautiful than the heart. I knew the rest of my life. Nothing could live up to that, equate that. Then med school, early residency years at a public sector hospital taught me more than my older siblings would've known, seen so far. One minute you are a kid fresh out of school, the other moment you're asking a 70 year old to calm down over his son's death. Nothing else would've brought me closer to God,humanity. If there was another life, another chance, I would choose medicine again,Cardiology again.
