Elena Ciaglia is an immunologist with skills and motivations in the field of translational medicine. As student of International PhD program in Oncology and Molecular Endocrinology, she spent some months at the Laboratory of Immunoregulation (NIAID) at the NIH. When she came back to Italy she won a prestigious 3 year fellowship from Fondazione Italiana Ricerca sul Cancro (FIRC) and a 3 years-post doc fellowship from Fondazione Umberto Veronesi in translational immunology area. She published the results of these studies as main author in important peer-reviewed scientific journal (Nat. Commun, Faseb, Int. Journal Cancer, Blood, Cell Death &Disease etc). Since 2017 she started to underpin the role of mono-macrophage compartment in Atherosclerosis, unveiling the secret of a successful immune response in healthy ageing (Eur. Heart Journal, Eur Journal of Heart Failure, Frontiers in Immunology).
Human platelets and megakaryocytes express the BPIFB4 protein and their stimulation with the recombinant Longevity-associated variant LAV-BPIFB4 displays anti-aggregating activity.
Murine transfer of a human gene variant associated with exceptional longevity displays senolytic effects both in immune compartment and endothelium of aged mice
