Sidney C. Smith, Jr., M.D. is Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina. He received his MD from Yale and medical residency, and cardiology fellowship at the Brigham Hospital/Harvard Medical School.He is a past president of the AHA and has served as Chief Science Officer for AHA. He chaired the ACC/AHA Task Force on Practice Guidelines, and served on the guideline writing groups for PCI guidelines, Secondary Prevention and STEMI.He Chaired the NHLBI Executive Committee for Guidelines on Cholesterol, Risk Prediction, Lifestyle and Hypertension and was Co-Chair of the ACC/AHA Bethesda Conference on Professionalism and Ethics. Dr. Smith is a Past President of the WHF. He has authored or co-authored more than 500 published papers and chapters and has served on the editorial boards for JACC, JAMA Cardiology, and Circulation. Among is many honors is the NHLBI/NIH Award of Special Recognition.
