Biography
Professor Wood is an international leader in CVD prevention, contributing to international policy and guidelines through the WHO, the WHF, and the ESC, starting with the Society's first prevention guideline in 1994. He was a founder and President of the EACPR, a Board member and Secretary/Treasurer of the ESC and President of the WHF, where he created the annual World Heart Summit in Geneva and the annual World Congress of Cardiology together with member societies, first in partnership with the ESC in Paris in 2019. He created the first European registry, EUROASPIRE, on the prevention of CVD, now in its 30th year, and has evaluated nurse-led prevention programmes across Europe through the EUROACTION trials. He founded the European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, and is Joint Editor-in-Chief of the ESC Textbook of Preventive Cardiology. He has received a Platinum Clinical Excellence Award from the NHS, the BCS James Mackenzie Award and the EAPC Medal.
