Professor Jean-Pierre Bassand

Jean-Pierre Bassand is Emeritus Professor of Cardiology at the University of Besançon- Franche-Comté, France. He is consultant at the Thrombosis Research Institute in London, UK. He was made a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and of the American College of Cardiology in 1990 and of the Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow) in 2007. He has served as a member of the Board of the European Society of Cardiology for 10 years, including 2 years as President of this Society (2002-2004). His clinical research interests are in the field of venous thromboembolism, of coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndromes and atrial fibrillation. He has authored or co-authored over 280 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals including three European Society of Cardiology guidelines on the management of acute coronary syndromes and of pulmonary embolism. He was awarded the American College of Cardiology Maseri-Florio Prize in 2009.
