Dr ElRefai is currently a consultant Cardiologist with a subspecialty interest in Heart failure and cardiac devices at Basildon University Hospital and the Cardiothoracic Center of Essex - United Kingdom He is a Heart failure association certified heart failure specialist. He is also a certified cardiac devices specialist by both the Euorpean Heart Rhythm as well as the British Heart Rhythm associations. His main research focus is on Subcutaneous ICDs and the use of Artificial intelligence in optimising devices therapy. He has been awarded his PhD degree from the University of Southampton- UK. He presented his research work at international conferences across the globe and has published his research work in high-impact peer reviewed journals. Dr ElRefai has been invited as an expert reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals as well as abstract marker for international conferences.
