Dr Mauro Pontes completed medical graduation at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brasil (1987).
He made Medical Residency in Internal Medicine (1990), followed by Medical Residency in Cardiology (1992).
Postgraduation includes a Master Degree in Physiology (2001) and a Doctoral Degree in Endocrinology (2009), being the first brazilian cardiologist with a PhD in Endocrinology/Diabetes.
He is a Full Professor of Pharmacology at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Porto Alegre (since 2010), and a Practicing Cardiologist at the NPCRS - Clinical Research Center, Rio Grande do Sul.
His major clinical/research interests are Cardio-Diabetes and Preventive Cardiology. He is the founder and first president of the Cardio-Diabetes Study Group in the Cardiology Society of Rio Grande do Sul.
