Professor Madhav Swaminathan

Madhav Swaminathan is the past President of the American Society of Echocardiography, and is the first anesthesiologist in this role. He is a tenured professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Duke University Health System in Durham, NC, USA. Originally trained in India, he has done fellowships in cardiovascular anesthesia in Belgium, United Kingdom and USA. Prof. Swaminathan's major research interests are in intraoperative echocardiography and adverse outcomes after cardiac surgery. He has received external funding for his research work and has co-authored over 200 peer reviewed publications, several book chapters, and two books on transesophageal echocardiography.
