I am an interventional cardiologist and a health services researcher. I am passionate about improving quality of care and outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease. A central theme of my research has been to understand the determinants of variation in quality of care across hospitals with the goal of identifying best practices. My research interests include cardiovascular diseases – acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, peripheral artery disease and cardiac arrest. My work has focused on the epidemiology and outcomes associated with cardiovascular diseases, quantifying variation in outcomes across facilities, defining the role of important care processes in improving survival, and identifying racial disparities in survival. I am also deeply interested in evaluating diffusion of new technology into healthcare practice, and use comparative effectiveness research to quantify the benefit and risks associated with new technology in contemporary clinical practice.
