Richard Kovacs, MD, FACC is the Q.E. and Sally Russell Professor of Cardiology at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine and led the cardiology service line at his institution. He is past president of the American College of Cardiology. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of the American College of Cardiology. At the IU School of Medicine, Kovacs has served as the associate dean for Clinical Research and associate director of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. He has also served as chair of the University Institutional Review Board. His areas of expertise include drug safety, especially the cardiac safety of non-cardiac drugs, the assessment of cardiac safety for competitive athletes, and the development of clinical quality systems.
