Bert-Jan van den Born is a general internist-vascular medicine specialist at the Amsterdam University Medical Centres, location AMC, where he is involved in the treatment of patients with cardiovascular diseases, in particular (difficult to treat) hypertension, vasculitis and connective tissues diseases. He is involved in the training of medical students and residents in Cardiology and Vascular Medicine. His research focuses on blood pressure measurement, ethnic differences in cardiovascular disease and extreme hypertensive phenotypes. He has supervised 15 PhD trajectories and is a clinical fellow of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. He is project leader of HELIUS cardiovascular, a large multi-ethnic population study in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, that is aimed at unraveling the origins of disparities in cardiovascular disease and has been involved as principal investigator in various clinical trials.
