Professor Gilles Lambert

INSERM, SAINT DENIS (Réunion)

Pr. Lambert is Professor in Cell Biology and Biochemistry at the University of La Réunion Medical School (France) and a group leader at Inserm UMR1188 DéTROI laboratory. He was awarded a PhD in Pathophysiology from the University of Paris. He specialized in lipidology, first as a post-doctoral fellow at the NIH (Bethesda MD) and then as a senior research fellow at the Heart Research Institute (Sydney, Australia). Pr. Lambert has conducted seminal research projects on PCSK9, a protein that targets the LDL receptor for intracellular degradation, and the target of novel cholesterol lowering agents. Pr. Lambert current research interests are to elucidate the specific role of PCSK9 in insulin producing beta-cells and to understand the cellular pathways by which PCSK9 modulates the circulating levels of lipoprotein (a), a highly atherogenic lipoprotein species.
