Mathias Mericskay is director of research at INSERM, leading the team "Energy signaling and cardiovascular pathophysiology" at University Paris-Saclay (Châtenay-Malabry, FR). His PhD thesis was on the regulation and function of the desmin gene in the cardiovascular system (Pasteur Institute, Paris, 1995-99) and his post-doctoral training in the field of Wnt (Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, 2000-03). Since his recruitment at INSERM, his research focuses on the mechanisms leading to structural and metabolic remodeling of cardiac muscle in different models of heart failure, notably the role of the transcription factor SRF in the regulation of cardiac genes and microRNAs involved in the regulation of contraction, energy transfer and calcium handling. More recently, his work highlighted the disturbance of theNAD coenzyme biosynthetic pathways in the failing heart. His group leads translational research programs to develop new metabolic therapies for heart failure.
