Doctor Filippo Perbellini

Filippo Perbellini is a Senior Research Fellow at King’s College London with over 15 years of experience in cardiovascular science, regenerative medicine, and cardiac electrophysiology. During his postdoctoral training at Imperial College London, he optimised protocols to generate highly viable living myocardial slices, an innovative ex vivo platform to study cardiac biology. As a Group Leader at Hannover Medical School, he used a range of ex vivo models to investigate tissue multicellularity and develop translational therapeutic strategies. In 2020, he joined Sana Therapeutics (USA) as a Principal Scientist to help advance cardiac cell therapy towards the clinic and to elucidate mechanisms of engraftment and arrhythmias. Since returning to academia in 2023 he is investigating the pro-proliferative effects of selected microRNAs and defining the electrophysiology of proliferating cardiomyocytes and developing new reprogramming strategies for cardiac cell therapy.
