Associate Professor Piergiorgio Tozzi

Cardiovascular Surgeon, senior staff member and Professor of cardiac surgery at the Lausanne University Hospital with more than 20 years experience in general cardiac surgery and particularly in the surgical treatment of acute and chronic heart failure. He has been a member and now president of the Swisstransplant Heart Working Group (STAH) since 2010, member of the steering committee of the Swiss Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Vascular Surgery (SSCC) and has recently been integrated into the Translational Research Task Force of the European Association for Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery (EACTS). He has since made 15 years of heart transplants and, in 2023, has introduced in Switzerland the use of Organ Care System device (Transmedics) for extracorporeal heart perfusion in donors after cardiac arrest (DCD) and for long ischemic time. His research work is primarily focused on end stage heart failure and artificial hearts, but also on new mitral valve repair devices.
