Biography
Prof. Dr. med. Carsten Tschöpe (FHFA, FESC) is a clinician cardiologist and basic science researcher at the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité (DHZC) and the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH)/BCRT in Berlin. He specializes in interventional cardiology and cardiomyopathies, with a strong focus on immunocardiology. Linking clinical care with mechanistic and biomarker-driven research, his work focuses on myocarditis, cardiomyopathies and HF phenotyping, incl. HFpEF. He has authored >500 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to HFA/ESC position statements and clinical guideline documents. He serves on the HFA Board and is currently Chair of the ESC Working Group on Myocardial and Pericardial Diseases. In 2026, the Dirk Brutsaert Award recognized his lifetime achievement in translational immunocardiology. Beyond medicine, he finds balance in tennis, sailing and philosophy books at the intersection of morality and science—ideally with his family, his dog, and a fine cigar.
