Tim Balthazar was trained as a cardiologist and intensivist at the University Hospitals Leuven, where he began his career as a consultant. In 2021 he joined the team of the University Hospital Brussels to focus on medical and cardiac intensive care. He remains active as a cardiologist as well. His research is focused on cardiogenic shock and acute heart failure, particularly optimization of mechanical circulatory support and mechanical ventilation based on individual hemodynamics.
