Professor Paul Muntner

Paul Muntner is Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He earned a Master’s degree in biostatistics and a doctorate degree in epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Muntner is the director for an American Heart Association Strategically Focused Research Network hypertension center and he is the principal investigator on a grants from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to lead a Hypertension Working Group in the Jackson Heart Study and to direct an institutional training grant focused on heart, lung, blood and sleep-related diseases among people living with HIV. He is on the data safety monitoring board for three NIH-funded trials. He was a writing group member of the 2017 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guideline for the Management of Hypertension. Dr. Muntner has published over 450 peer-reviewed articles over the past 18 years.
