Günter Breithardt, MD, EFESC, FACC, FHRS, FEHRA, Professor emer., Univ. Münster, Germany, had been Head of the Dept of Cardiology & Angiology, and Director of Molecular Cardiology, Leibniz-Institute Arteriosclerosis Research until 2009. President of ESC (1996-8) and German Cardiac Society (1999-2001), chairman ESC Working Group on Arrhythmias, and of SFB 556 “Heart Failure and Arrhythmias, from Molecular Basis to Clinical Management” (DFG). Chairman of the Interdisciplinary Task Force GUCH/EMAH (2003-2018), co-founder and chairman of the Atrial Fibrillation network (AFNET, 2003-2015); 2008 to 2009, speaker and acting chairman, Competence Network on Congenital Heart Disease. As of 2017, chairman of the ESC Ethics Committee.
He has been member of research reviewing panels, been actively involved in national and international clinical trials, he is honorary member of various national societies, and has received several renowned awards.
