Thomas Engstrøm is a professor and senior consultant in the Department of Invasive Cardiology at The Heart Center, Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen, Denmark where he has performed percutaneous coronary interventions for more than 15 years. In addition, working with leading a Rigshospitalet research group, he has led steering committees in several international clinical trials and been the main investigator in major trials. His main research interests include myocardial protection in ischemic heart disease with special reference to reperfusion injury, percutaneous assist devices in cardiogenic shock, the significance of pressure-derived strategies in percutaneous coronary interventions and magnetic resonance techniques in acute myocardial infarction.
