Following graduation in Medicine in 1979, Dr Della Bella spent several years in basic research under the head of Professor Malliani on the role of cardiac sympathetic reflexes. Later moved to Clinical Electrophysiology trained with Professor Wellens in Maastricht (86-87), later in London Ontario and Oklahoma City .
Since 1992 Head of the Arrhythmia Unit at the Centro Cardiologico Monzino, later moved (2010) to the San Raffaele Hospital, where is currently head of the Arrhythmia Department.
Most of this research work lately focused on the study of mechanisms of ventricular tachycardia both in ischemic and non ischemic cardiomyopathy, multielectrode substrate and VT activation mapping, bipolra ablation of deep septal NICM VTs, role of hemodynamic support in advanced heart failure VT patients..
Also, he fisrt envisioned the concept and led to the actual organization of the VT Unit, a dedicated structure for the 24/24 h admission and treatment of critical VT patients.
