Dr. Sébastien Chaigne is a French cardiac electrophysiologist and biomedical researcher whose scientific trajectory bridges fundamental ion channel pathophysiology and translational cardiac disorders. His research aims to elucidate how perturbations in cardiac ion channel function drive electrical instability, contractile impairment, and arrhythmogenesis in both inherited and acquired heart diseases. At the core of his work lie the electrophysiological properties and pathophysiological implications of pivotal cardiac ion channels, including TRPV4, hERG, connexins, Nav1.5, and Kv4.3. Dr. Chaigne’s investigations have revealed a multifaceted role for TRPV4 channels in mechano-transduction and Ca2+ homeostasis within cardiomyocytes, providing new insight into their contribution to ventricular remodeling and mechanical dysfunction. His studies further explore potassium and sodium channel dynamics, key determinants of cardiac excitability, action potential propagation, and rhythm stability.
