Biography
Eugenio Picano, MD, PhD, was born in Cassino (Italy) on October 10th,1958. Degree of medicine (1981), Cardiology fellowship (1984), and PhD in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology (1993) in Pisa University. Currently Research Director in the Biomedicine Department of the National Research Council. A clinical cardiologist with a strong background in cardiovascular imaging and multidisciplinary research, he has published 500 papers in peer-reviewed journals (h-index= 94 by Google Scholar as per September 30, 2020). He is recognized for contributions in stress echocardiography, medical radiation effects on doctors and patients, extravascular lung water detection by lung ultrasound and non-invasive biopsy of atherosclerotic plaque by tissue characterization techniques. His book “Stress echocardiography” edited by Springer Verlag is at the sixth edition (2015) and was translated in 6 languages.
