Dr Els PG Pieper has been working as a cardiologist in the University Hospital Groningen for almost 30 years. She specialized in echocardiography, valvular heart disease, and congenital heart disease. In the past 20 years her research focused on pregnancy and heart disease, leading the Dutch ZAHARA studies and publishing multiple important papers related to this subject. For many years she was chair of the Dutch working group for congenital cardiology and had a leading role in organizing care for congenital heart disease patients in the Netherlands. She has edited Dutch books on echocardiography and on congenital heart disease. She organized a web-based course in congenital cardiology for the International Society of Adult Congenital Heart Disease. She works now as senior cardiologist in The Hague, where she is supervising in the echocardiography lab as well as being a member of valvular heart team and pulmonary hypertension team and taking care of patients in her areas of expertise.
