Prof. Dr. med. Clemens von Schacky, FESC, (64, board certified Internist / Cardiologist / Angiologist) is leading the unit of Preventive Cardiology at the Ludwig Maximilians-University of Munich, and the fatty acid laboratory Omegametrix® in Martinsried, both Germany. His research focused on aspects of cardiovascular prevention, such as omega-3 fatty acids, aspirin, ACE-inhibitors, diabetes and others (147 peer-reviewed publications in medline as of May 2020). Together with WS Harris, he invented and defined the Omega-3 Index, a standardized method for erythrocyte fatty acid analysis, now brand-marked “HS-Omega-3 Index®”, substantiated by >300 publications in international journals (as of May 2020), and more than 50 ongoing research projects. CvS founded Omegametrix, which focuses on the HS-Omega-3 Index. His work has been recognized by numerous awards, the latest the award of the Global Organization for EPA and DHA (GOED) for global leadership in omega-3’s in 2016.
