Biography
Rui holds a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences (2019) from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto. He is currently a “César Nombela” Research Talent Attraction Fellow, funded by the Community of Madrid, at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Medicine, Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). His research focuses on pulmonary arterial hypertension, with expertise in preclinical rodent models (monocrotaline and hypoxia–Sugen5416) and in vivo/in vitro assessment of cardiac function. He has established collaborations with leading institutions, including INSERM (France), Medical University of Graz (Austria) or the University of Antwerp (Belgium). He received awards such as the Janssen Innovation Award (2018) and ERS Short-Term Fellowship (2017), and contributed to ESC Scientists of Tomorrow (2020–23). His work addresses small bioactive molecules (peptides, microRNAs) in pulmonary vascular remodeling and right heart failure.
