Joanna Pepke-Zaba, PhD, FRCP, has established and developed the National Pulmonary Vascular Diseases Unit (PVDU) at Royal Papworth Hospital and she has been the Director of PVDU since 2003. PVDU is the sole referral centre for surgical treatment with pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) and pulmonary balloon angioplasty (BPA) for UK. The PVDU is deals with the full spectrum of pulmonary hypertension (Groups 1-5) and the consequent heart failure. Her main research has concentrated on the translational programmes in the field of pulmonary hypertension with specific interest into CTEPH and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. She is the founding member of ICA, member of BTS, ERS, ESC, ISHLT. The PVDU is the member of ERN-Lung. She has published over 160 papers in the field of PH and serves on various educational and scientific international committees. In recognition of her research output she was appointed as the Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow, University of Cambridge.
