Professor Reinier Boon

Since 2019 Reinier Boon is a professor at the Amsterdam UMC in Amsterdam and at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. After receiving his PhD degree with honors in 2008 at the University of Amsterdam, he moved to the Institute for Cardiovascular Regeneration in Frankfurt, Germany, where he started post-doctoral work funded by the Netherlands organization for scientific research (NWO). From 2011 to 2016, Dr. Boon was a junior group leader in the Institute for Cardiovascular Regeneration in Frankfurt. He received multiple awards for his work on the effects of shear stress on endothelial cells and the role of microRNAs in aging of the cardiovascular system. Dr. Boon’s research is funded by the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK), the German research foundation, the European Research Council (Starting grant and Consolidator grant) and the Dutch Scientific Organization NWO (Vidi). Current research is focused on non-coding RNA and aging of the cardiovascular system.
