He is a clinical and translational cardiologist and electrophysiologist with basic and clinical research expertise in atrial fibrillation, sudden cardiac death, genetic heart disease, congestive . He has had extensive experience and success in collaborative research on a local, national and international level. He is a co-founder of the Munich Heart Alliance and member of the National Cardiovascular Research Network in Germany (DZHK). He has served as PI in numerous controlled clinical trials since 2004. He is co-directing the clinical study group. He is co-directing the clinician scientist programme. He is pursuing his research goals by collaborating with a wide range of basic scientists, electrophysiologists, geneticists, statisticians, bioinformaticians and health outcomes experts on a local, national and international level. He is a fellow of of the ESC, member of EHRA and a founding member of the ESC Cardiovascular genomics council (chair 2024-2026).
