Joseph de Bono trained in Medicine and Cardiology in Oxford and Cambridge Universities before completing this training as the Senior Fellow at the Heart Hospital In London. He carried out research into the cardiovascular consequences of exercise for which he was awarded A Doctor in philosophy by Oxford University. This research also led to the award of the British Heart Rhythm Society Young investigators award in 2007. He was appointed as a consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist at the University Hospitals Birmingham. He has published widely in exercise physiology, electrophysiology, device therapy and arrhythmias in adult congenital heart disease. He was elected to the council of the British Heart Rhythm Society in 2018 and was an examiner for the British Heart Rhythm Society. He leads the electrophysiology service in Birmingham including an active fellowship program. He ahs a subspeciality interest in ablation in patients with Adult Congenital Heart Disease.
