Biography
Kumuda C Das, PhD is a professor and director of cardiopulmonary research in the Internal Medicine department at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Lubbock, Texas USA. He graduated from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia, USA in Biochemistry/Toxicology in 1992. His research involves understanding of redox-related reactions and free radicals in cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. In cardiovascular field he has contributed to the field of Thioredoxin and nitric oxide synthase biology by discovering that oxidized and S-glutathionylated eNOS is degraded via chaperone-mediated autophagy without de novo synthesis that contributes to hypertension and myocardial infarction (Circulation Research. 2021;129:930–945). He has also demonstrated that age-related vascular redox state regulates hypertension (Sci. Transl. Med. 9, eaaf6094 (2017). He has received several research grants from NIH, AHA and ALA. He likes to visit national parks and reserves.
