Biography
Prof. dr. Marc Claeys is deputy head of department at the department of cardiology of the Antwerp University Hospital and professor at UAntwerpen. As an interventional cardiologist, his clinical and scientific expertise is focused on acute coronary syndromes and on percutaneous treatment of mitral valve disease. He is national coordinator of a dozen major international clinical studies (Clariti, Plato, Circus, Entrust AF, Paradise MI,.Carioca, Victorion-prevent...). He is the founder and national coordinator of the Belgian STEMI database and the Belgian mitraclip database and he was the national coordinator for the ESC committee for Practice Guidelines during ten years (2012-2022). He was the president of the Belgian Society of cardiology (2016-2018) and of the Belgian Heart Foundation (2019-2023) and he is strongly involved the Acute Cardiovascular Care Association (ACVC, treasurer from 2018-2022). He is the author of more than 200 international journal articles.
