Biography
Dan Atar holds a full professorship in Cardiology at the University of Oslo, Norway, as well as a Visiting Associate Professorship at The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA. He has written over 580 research articles (H-factor 94) and appeared on the Thompson-Reuters list over "The most cited researchers of the World".
Dan Atar has been elected Councilor of the ESC, elected Vice-President of the ESC (2014-2016), and elected Secretary/Treasurer of the ESC (2018-2020). He is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Cardiology" (Karger). He currently serves as Head of the European Heart Academy under the ESC and Chair of the FESC Task Force. In 2015, he received a doctor honoris causa and in 2023 the “Lifetime Achievement Award”, awarded by the King of Norway. In 2025, he presented the BETAMI/DANBLOCK trial at ESC Madrid (published in the NEJM) which had been running under his co-chairmanship.
